Pupils  »  Class Pages  »  Class Six

Hello and welcome to the Year 3 Class Page. My name is Mrs Barlow and along with Mrs Taylor and Mr Deegan we are so proud of the wonderful children we have in our class.

I'm THRILLED to be teaching Year 3! It’s going to continue to be a fun year full of lots of learning and new adventures and I can’t wait to see what the remainder of the year has in store for us.

As many of you know, my role within school is Assistant Principal and Phase 3 leader ( looking after Year 3 and 4) here at Oakwell Rise Academy, in addition to teaching class 6, but I'm going to tell you a few things about me you may not have known.

Being the eldest of three sisters, I have lived all my life in Barnsley and live quite close to school. I have worked in two other schools prior to joining the team at Oakwell Rise Academy and taught in Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2.

I have three grown up children, two sons and a daughter named Rachael, Andrew and Luke.  Rachel is 26, Andrew 24 and Luke is 18.  My daughter lives in Liverpool and we visit her quite often. I have two pets - a black cat that has only got three legs called Bones and a fluffy, cuddly dog called Toby!

Travelling is one of my delights. I love European cities and this year visited Barcelona and Copenhagen for the very first time. Any opportunity I can to get on a plane I will take!  Mr Barlow and I also  enjoy spending weekends away, visiting new and exciting places here in England. I enjoy nights out and going to the cinema. I like shopping especially for clothes and shoes and I love glittery things and fur coats! ( Actually, you may well have worked this one out already!)

There is not a lot I don't like, however I am not very keen on sport and never watch it on TV.

P.E

P.E for Class 6 is now on Monday afternoon. P.E sessions are taught by trained coaches delivering high quality P.E sessions. P.E is part of our curriculum and therefore all children are expected to take part. Please ensure your child has a P.E kit for each session and that earrings are removed.

Homework

English and Maths homework is sent home each Friday. This will link to what is being taught in the classroom during the week.  Please support your child in completing their homework and returning no later than Wednesday the following week. All homework returned by Wednesday will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into our prize homework draw a the end of each half term .
Prizes will change each half term.
The prize for Autumn 2 was a yummy chocolate Santa!

Spellings

Learning to spell is an essential skill. Year 3 has a set spelling list that your child will be expected to learn to spell on sight. Each Friday your child will bring home 10 spellings from this list to learn. Please support your child in learning these of by heart. We will hold  a spelling quiz every following Friday morning.

Year 3's spellings for the Spring term are:
could, would, should, everybody, once, heel, heal, he'll, increase, fruit, suppose, surprise, therefore, February, March, April, many, are, half, sure, beautiful, who, who's, whose, which, whole, difficult, disappear, May, June, July.

Reading

Reading takes place in class every day. This is either during the whole class guided reading session or in small groups. An important part of learning to read is reading everyday at home. We welcome your support and have given each child a home reading record for you to record your child's reading experiences at home. Children can borrow a book each night, or even longer for more in depth books. Please bring the reading record to school each day. For each day they have read they will receive a reading raffle ticket. These are drawn in our Friday Pride Award Assembly. The winner wins a fabulous new book to keep.  You have to be in it to win it- so let's get reading!

Theme

Our theme for the first Spring term is 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter'
We are looking forward to becoming trainee wizards- making new spells and potions and designing and making our very own wands! Mr Deegan has been busy designing our environment to amaze and inspire our children.

Keep checking in to see photos of our work produced!

As a thank you for those children who have adhered to the Oakwell Rise Promise, each half term we have our Top Trump Trip. At the end of Autumn 2 we treat our children to a fabulous cinema experience with popcorn and juice.
