Welcome to Class 9…
Hello everyone I have had the privilege and pleasure of working at Oakwell Rise Academy for 5 years. I am currently in Year 6 but have worked in various year groups throughout my time at the school. I enjoy teaching the children a variety of subjects but my passion is Mathematics. As maths leader it is my goal to make sure our children are enjoying the subject and building up their confidence to enable them to meet everyday challenges with a smile.
The children in Class 9 have come a long way since the beginning of their Year 6 journey. We are determined to succeed and are all very supportive of each other; this makes our days in school as productive and positive as possible.
Throughout this year it is my job to get our lovely children in Class 9 ready for their journey into secondary school; this means lots of work around expectations and of course our upcoming SATs testing. So far the children have greeted this with an open mind and determination to be the best that they can be! As part of this push on learning the children take homework home which supports their learning in class. Homework goes out on a Monday and should be returned to school by Friday. Part of this homework is weekly spellings – the children receive 5 spellings each week which they also practise in school and are then tested on during a Friday. Additionally, the children are asked to read at home as part of their weekly homework. As an incentive the more times the children read at home the more reading tickets they can add in to our class draw. Each week one reading ticket is picked from our class box and the chosen child can choose a book to read and keep!
The children throughout Phase 4 are really lucky to have specialist coaches delivering their PE skills sessions. Class 9 need to have their kits in school for their PE day which is currently on a Tuesday. If the children do not have kits in school they will not be able to participate in PE and a phone call will be made home.
Throughout the year the children in Phase 4 have already been on an exciting reward trip to the bowling alley and have participated in a cinema experience afternoon. The purpose of the Top Trumps trips and events is to say a big ‘WELL DONE’ to the children who are always following our Oakwell Promise. Doing the right thing pays off at Oakwel Rise!!! Who knows where we will go next…
